Marielle Sander

Ms. Marielle Sander (Sweden) is the UNFPA Representative for Eritrea. Prior to this assignment Marielle was the ICPD@5 Coordinator at UNFPA HQ (2018-2019). Her first post with UNFPA was as Representative in Haiti (2015-2018).

Ms. Marielle Sander (Sweden) is the UNFPA Representative for Eritrea. Prior to this assignment Marielle was the ICPD@5 Coordinator at UNFPA HQ (2018-2019). Her first post with UNFPA was as Representative in Haiti (2015-2018). Before joining UNFPA, Marielle served as Senior Political Advisor to the Swedish Government Secretariat for the Global Forum on Migration and Development (2012-2014).

From 2010-2012 she was the Deputy Representative for UNICEF in Moscow, Russian Federation. Marielle has also served as Chief of Mission for the International Organization for Migration in the Republic of Moldova (2002-2004) and in Turkey (2004-2006). 

Marielle began her career with the UN as a UN Volunteer with UNDP serving as Assistant to the Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan (1997-1998), she held consultancies with ILO and UN Women (previously UNIFEM) between 2008-2010 while completing her post-graduate studies.

She has also served as Chief of Party for The Asia Foundation in Cambodia (2006-2008) and has worked on environmental sustainability with the Municipality of Gotland, Sweden (1999-2000).

Marielle holds a Master’s degree in Migration and Law (with distinction) from the University of London (Queen Mary, UK and a Bachelor’s degree in Society and Media from Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia.
